The programme of events for the 2010 Dumfries and Galloway Wildlife Festival is now available. The Festival is a showcase for some of the special wildlife found in Dumfries and Galloway, with local groups, organisations, businesses and visitor attractions putting on special events to enable more people to learn about and enjoy the plants and animals that live in the region.
This year will be the seventh time the Festival has been held, and will run from 2-18 April. This years programme is the largest ever, with over 60 events planned catering for children and adults alike. Amongst the events are many guided walks to look at everything from fossils to migrating waterbirds, poetry events featuring award-winning writers and musicians, Black Grouse viewing in the Galloway Forest Park, photography and art workshops and the ever popular Red Kite feeding station open day at Laurieston. The full programme of events can be downloaded in PDF format here (1.1Mb)
DGERC will be running two events in partnership with other local organisations. On Tuesday 13th April (9.30am) we will be joining Cree Valley Community Woodlands staff in a wildlife recording day at Blairmount Park, Newton Stewart, helping to look for and record as many different species of plants and animals at the site. On Friday 16th April (10.00am) DGERC and SNH staff will be searching for elusive reptiles at Kirkconnell Flow National Nature Reserve. Booking at both events is essential, and further details are available from Mark Pollitt at the DGERC office.
