Bumblebee Survey: meet the Queen in your own back garden!

The Bugs in Gardens project is encouraging people in Dumfries and Galloway to take a closer look at the bumblebees in their gardens.

In the recent warm weather queen bumblebees have been emerging from hibernation over the winter. They can easily be seen flying in search of places to make their nests and collecting nectar and pollen from flowers.

To celebrate the Bugs in Gardens project and the skills of local recorders, we are holding a bug photography competition.

It will be a fairly fun and relaxed competition, open to everyone who records wildlife in Dumfries & Galloway.

Wildlife recorders in Dumfries and Galloway are invited to the Bugs in Gardens end of project celebration at 7.30pm on Friday April 20th. The event will be a great opportunity to meet other wildlife recorders in the region and to enjoy a range of fun activities.

DGERC job vacancy - Bugs in Gardens Project Officer

The Southern Uplands Partnership wishes to employ a Project Officer for a period of up to six months (to April 30th 2012). The post will be based in Kirkgunzeon near Dumfries.

Wool Carder Bees

Found a new site for Wool Carder Bees (Anthidium manicatum) this morning at Threave Gardens, this brings the total number of recorded sites for this bee across the whole region to four(!)
